Illustrator I-DAT Magazine Finished 0

Illustrator was fairly new to me as I have only used it before to create vector images. However, once I got into it I found it fairly easy to use, especially as I have extensively used Photoshop before which is very similar.

I am quite happy with the finished product, although graphic design isn’t my strong point.

Back In Torbay 1

Finished Uni for the term and I’m now back in Torbay for a couple of weeks. It’s good to have time to work on things again. To get done over xmas;

  • Redesign of n3k4.com: Instead of having it point to this blog (which is mainly used for IDAT stuff) I’m gonna make it into some sort of portal to be able to lead to different areas such as my photography portfolio for example.
  • Lyzi’s Christmas present: It’s a secret but will be finished soon.
  • IDAT104 Essay: I’m pretty sure it’s going to be about the web2.0 idea as it’s quite interesting at the moment, 2000 words of it.
  • IDAT103 Illustrator Magazine: I had this finished for the December deadline, but it was extended till January so I’m going to work on it a bit more as I wasn’t happy with it.
  • IDAT102 Flash Movie Poster: Haven’t started this at all, will work on it soon.
  • SOFT131 Exam: I should revise for this, but I probably won’t until the last minute.
  • Client work from Cloud-One.

Got my results back from the CNET113 exam and I got 72% which is pretty good considering I hate that module. And that’s about it, time to play some Wii.

For this I received 31 marks, which equates to 72% and I am quite happy with that result.

Artefact Brief 0

artefact or artifact (’a:tI,faekt) n. 1. Something made or given shape by man, such as a tool or a work of art, esp. an object or archaeological interest. 2. Cytology. a structure seen in tissue after death, fixation, staining, etc., that is not normally present in the living tissue.
[C19: from Latin phrase arte factum from ars skill + facere to make]

After reading the Borges short story you are required to research an ‘artefact’ and its maker/manufacturer. The exact nature of that artefact will be negotiated during the tutorial sessions. It is important that you are able to gain access to information concerning its production, such as: biographical details of the maker; construction material; construction process; details of the environment it was produced in…

You are required to immerse yourself in research surrounding the artefact and its maker. As far as possible you should experience the same/similar investigative process undertaken by the artefacts manufacturer.

“… artefacts do not exist in a space of their own, transmitting meaning to the spectator, but, on the contrary, are susceptible to a multiform construction of meaning which is dependent on the design, the context of other objects, the visual and historical representation, the whole environment; … artefacts can change their meaning not just over the years as different histriographical and institutional currents pick them out and transform their significance, but from day to day as different people view them and subject them to their own interpretation.”
(Saumarez Smith, C. Museums, Artefacts, and Meanings. The New Museology. Vergo, P, ed. pp19. Reaktion Books Ltd, London, 1989.)

Requirements:
A: Diary/logbook/workbook, an account of the production representing the investigative research process, which should include a short critical account of the process (Approx 1000 words).
B: Documentary evidence representing the reconstructed artefact. The format and presentation of this material will be negotiated with your tutor.
C: All of this material must be formatted as a discreet section of the Portfolio.

Deadline: 19 March. Online/Presentation.

IDAT London Trip 1

Overall was a pretty good trip, very informative and got a lot done.

Met up with Steve, Chelle and Kenny at 7.15am (too early) and caught the train up.
First of all went to the Tate Modern which as usual, wasn’t too good and spent most of the time waiting outside for everyone else.

Then went to the Lloyds Building and the Gherkin for photo opportunities and then off to Whitechapel Library for an MP3 audio tour which was pretty interesting having this woman guide you by a story on an MP3 and we ended up at Liverpool Street Station.

After that we walked to the Kinetica Museum in Spitalfield Market which was much better than the Tate considering the difference in popularity. Lots of really good installations there.

Later on we went to some bars and ended up at the specialmoves studio which I felt was the best part of the trip because it was really informative and relevant. Was really good talking to people who knew what they were talking about and knew where we are coming from as the guys there were on the same course as us.

Met up with Pete Harrison and Pete PJ and went for a shoot around Canary Wharf and got quite a lot of decent photos that I’ll upload later.

Went sleep far too late, woke up far too late, then went home in the 1st class section of the train :D Good two days, can’t wait to go up again for ATEI.

Telematic Performance Final 0

In the end we decided the scrap the balloon idea on the day before we were due to do the presentation. We had the idea of using food to represent a chosen image in a sort of mosaic fashion.

To begin we had the audience tell us what colours to use for the image (which happened to be of Bart and Homer Simpson) after one of us had drawn out the outline of the image onto a piece of card.

Then using various methods of cutting, chopping, grating the food, we placed what fit best where. I didn’t expect it to look anything like the picture, but strangely it did.

Overall we got 58 marks which wasn’t too good, but the project was only worth 10%. I can see why we didn’t score as high as we could, but I’m just glad it wasn’t a high percentage of the module.
