Finished and exhibited! Had a huge last minute hitch that ended up in a typical iDAT allnighter. Will do a proper write up soon, here’s the video of it in play. I think there’s some issue with parsing punctuation hence why some weird characters might appear.
Tom Jackson showed me this really nice speedcoding video that has a nice visualition built in AS3 using perlin noise particles. Nom nom nom.
I’ve almost almost finished my Konfess project in time for Monday where it will be on show in the Roland Lewinsky building. All I’ve got left to do is touch up the visualisation and do a bit more on the site then it’s all go!
That secret in the video has nothing to do with me, hence why I’m still at uni :/
Konfess is a public, social and interactive project designed by Digital Art and Technology student Kane Andrews. The project uses public interaction to display their innermost feelings and secrets and in turn creating a visualisation that reacts to the general mood of the input. The project was inspired by the GroupHug.us online confession website and the 7 deadly sins.
The public use their mobile phones to anonymously text in their deepest, darkest secrets, feelings, emotions and desires. These could be anything from their relationship problems to how they want to punch someone annoying. After being displayed in public, a visualisation is created from the data received depending on whether any of the words in the text correspond to any words matching keywords related to any of the 7 deadly sins.
If so, then the more keywords found, the more dominating the sin would be. For example, if there were a good number of words found in the text messages that are associated with the sloth sin, then the visualisation would become slower and more sluggish. Each of the colours and lines correspond to a different sin, so as the more text messages are displayed, then the visualation represents the overall mood and atmosphere of the surrounding publics secret thoughts and feelings, which is generally unnoticeable.
The project will be on display on Monday 10th of March in the Roland Lewinsky building at the University of Plymouth.
